Ivy League schools were surprisingly some of the first schools to try out the online education community. While they originally offered only open online classes, these schools were many of the first traditional schools to offer online degree programs to distance learning students and have inevitably lowered the price of these courses. Yale has long been one of the top ranked Ivy League schools in the nation and one of the most prestigious in the world: the name alone sends visions of moss-colored buildings and New England style libraries from the eighteenth century. Many outsiders of the online education industry picture online degrees more like the “diploma mill” scandal, and are unaware that schools such as Yale offer online degrees as well.
